From vision to reality: the art of futuring

Annette Diggs shares how futuring—imagining beyond imposed limits and acting as if possibility is already real—carried her from a redlined neighborhood to becoming a scientist, mountaineer, and founder of EDGE Outdoors. Her talk shows that the future is not fixed but shaped by those bold enough to claim it. A 2024–2025 WISE Seattle Woman of Inspiration, she channels her own journey through systemic barriers into expanding access, leadership, and belonging for Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color in outdoor spaces.

Aim anyway: a formula for progress in an imperfect world

Kathy Green reminds us that even in a rapidly changing world, we already have the tools to create meaningful change, grounding that work in dignity and shared values. She offers a simple framework—Discover, Connect, Take Action + Repeat—shaped by her years teaching Girl Scouts and reinforced by a career spanning chemistry, tech leadership, global partnerships, and community advocacy. Her belief that imperfect systems invite improvement fuels her call to lead with curiosity, accountability, and courage, showing that thoughtful progress is always within reach.

It's time to use MSG: a framework to spark identity, power and change

Dr. Kat Lieu reframes the stigma around MSG—rooted in racism and misinformation—by turning those three letters into a call to action: Make it Yours, Say it Louder, Go All In. An award‑winning cookbook author and founder of Subtle Asian Baking, she has built a global community celebrating Asian‑inspired treats while using her platform to challenge stereotypes and uplift AAPI voices. A former physical therapist turned full‑time food writer, she now contributes to major outlets, serves on the board of The Very Asian Foundation, and continues to bake, write, and fundraise from her home near Seattle.

AI for all: when built with purpose, we all rise

Lakshmi Nidamarthi invites us to view AI not as a disruptive force but as an intentional tool that can unite purpose and profit when built with care. A technologist with more than two decades of experience at global companies including Amazon, she champions AI as a driver of conscious capitalism—technology created by all, for all, to scale both impact and return. Through her work founding Waymakers and her advocacy in education and neurodiversity, she pairs deep technical expertise with human‑centered leadership to help build a more inclusive future.

No grief wasted: the power of grieving every loss

Dr. Shen blends scientific research on death and grief with the profound lessons she’s learned supporting patients and families through their hardest moments, offering practical strategies for moving through loss with compassion. A social psychologist and Associate Professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, her widely published, NIH‑funded work shows how loss can become a catalyst for deeper joy and purpose. Through her writing, speaking, and her Substack “Light in the Wound,” she illuminates how narrative and science together help us grow from life’s most difficult experiences.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBellevueWomen where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBellevueWomen event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Visit this site for more information.
